Better Late Than Single is a makeover reality dating show that helps eternal singles who have never been in a romantic relationship in their life find their first love. The cast members undergo six weeks of customized solutions for personal training, fashion, diet, speech, and mind that will change not only their appearance but also their inner self. And the four Cupids, Seo In Guk, Kang Han Na, Lee Eun Ji, and Car, the garden, team up with the cast members to pass on various practical tips and ways to build confidence. The transformed eternal singles then spend 9 days together at a resort on Jeju Island in hopes of finding a match. Although awkward and clumsy because this is all new to them, the eternal singles with zero dating experience show more sincerity than anyone else. Their first love story presents pleasant excitement as it goes from a sitcom full of twists and turns to a heart-fluttering romance. Will these lifelong singles achieve the first romantic relationship they have long dreamed of?

Noh Jae-yun is a 3D artist in the computer graphics industry who has been single for 27 years. Although his good looks should demand more confidence, he has a habit of casting his eyes down, and could not make eye contact with females. "My hardware isn't too bad, but my software's a bit... like Windows 98 still," he says. As he rarely goes outside to interact with others, he has struggled a lot in social situations, and wants to be more confident and comfortable in interacting with others so he can find love. He does not think he can overcome this on his own, so with external help through this show, he hopes to create a turning point in his life. He knows he still has a long way to go, but will keep doing his best to become a better man.
Kim Seung-li specializes in global marketing, and helps clients with every aspect, from video production to visual analysis. He immigrated to Brazil at the age of 8 and lived there for about 12 years before returning to South Korea. It was difficult at first because he could not speak the language, so he did not really talk with other kids. And compared to Brazilians who are very open-minded, he thinks he was a bit more conservative. He was also really chubby growing up, so he was determined to exercise, and lost weight. He works out every day to stay in shape, and feels more confident now.
Kim Sang-ho works as a researcher developing test equipment for electronic components used in weapons, like tanks and self-propelled artillery. He went to an all-boys high school, majored in engineering, and completed his military service. As he has always been surrounded by guys, he has not had the opportunity to meet girls. "Even guys in mostly male groups manage to date," he says. "So I think it's because I haven't made enough of an effort to take care of myself." For his makeover, he worked hard to get in shape, and lost around 20kg through diet and exercise. Now that he is in his prime, he feels more confident about getting a girlfriend.
Ha Jeong-mok is currently a college student majoring in chemical and biomolecular engineering at Sogang University. He applied to Better Late Than Single because of his twin brother, who said this was his only chance to date. They used to do everything together, but when his brother got a girlfriend, he started spending less time with him and felt quite lonely. "I think ideal types don't even matter anymore now," he says. "I just have to start dating someone. I don't have time to be fussy." After working with his Cupid, Seo In Guk, to change his style, his goal is to start his first relationship and escape from being eternally single.
Kang Hyun-kyu is currently in his final year of studying medicine at Chung-Ang University, and wants to go into orthopedic surgery. He has always been more focused on studying and getting into a good high school and college, rather than thinking about dating. But once he got into medical school, there was even more to study, so he had his hands full trying to keep up. "When I'm interested in someone, my brain stops working and I become awkward," he says. He has trouble holding a conversation, but wants to try his best so that he can be in a relationship.
Lee Seung-chan is a surgeon who graduated from Korea University College of Medicine and trained in Samsung Medical Center's Department of General Surgery. He was once in a relationship for about 100 days, but it did not even amount to 1% of his 31 years of life, so his friends treated him as an eternal single. "I consider myself to be one as well," he admits. People often said his bleached hair and floral shirts were why he did not have a girlfriend, so he feels disappointed sometimes when others do not seem to get it. Cupid Seo In Guk mobilized his personal styling team to help Seung-chan with a neat makeover, and even he himself thinks he looks pretty good right now.
Kang Ji-su majored in dance, specifically ballet, and currently teaches at a ballet school. As she was always around more girls than boys, and also graduated from a women's university, she is naturally uncomfortable around guys. And says she has never had a crush on anybody before. She has been on about 4 to 5 blind dates but shakes with nervousness during the meeting, and feels pressure days before having to go out and meet them. She is the type who often feels drained when she goes outside, so she is a homebody who prefers being at home by herself. "I once stayed home alone for over a month," and thought, "I'll never get married at this rate." So she thinks this is a good opportunity for her, and applied to appear on the show. She is going to try flirting, and will try her best.
Kim Yeo-Myung is a college student majoring in business administration, and recently interned at a local credit guarantee foundation. Originally, she was never interested in dating, and used to have a lot of friends who were eternal singles like herself. However, they all started to date and have boyfriends now, so she had no one to hang out with anymore, and felt envious. She wishes to have a boyfriend too, and says, "I have to escape this life as an eternal single." She feels clothes do not look good on her as she is on the chubby side, and hopes to improve herself by working out and watching what she eats. After investing a lot of time in transforming herself, she feels more confident about wearing cute outfits. "If I'm interested in someone, I think I'd press on like a bulldozer," she says.
Lee Min-hong majored in fashion marketing, and worked as a stylist and a fashion brand marketer, but is in between jobs at the moment. For seven months, she went on about 20 to 30 blind dates, and countless group dates too. But she wanted to meet someone she could imagine a future with, so her mom gifted her with memberships to matchmaking agencies. And around 99% of the time, she is asked out on a second date. "I don't think there are any problems with my appearance, but I can be quite blunt," she admits. As a person who is very clear about her likes and dislikes, she likes being extremely efficient. She has her own standards and does not want to waste time on relationships that will not last. "I think it will be good if I try harder to be more open-minded and wait to see the strengths in people," she says.
Yi Do is an online instructor at ETOOS, an education company, who teaches Korean geography, world geography, and integrated social studies to high school students. Although she is the youngest teacher to teach CSAT at her company, she actually has not graduated from college yet. She is currently majoring in geography education at Seoul National University. As she is juggling both school and work, she does not have time for anything else. She focused really hard on slowing down her speech and learning how to have a conversation. "Now, when someone does or says something, I think a bit more about their emotions behind them. I have more courage now," she says.
Park Ji-Yeon majored in music composition, and produces background music for virtual worlds and game companies. Since she went to all-girls schools from middle school to college, she has only female friends. She had not made much of an effort to date, hoping that her first relationship would just happen naturally. And due to the personal circumstances of growing up with a father figure who most would consider not so ideal, she has avoided it and pushed away anyone who showed interest in her doubting their sincerity. After seeking counseling with a psychiatrist, she realized she had this tendency to blame herself, and received a lot of advice which helped her. "I want to break down the prejudice and stereotypes I have and show how I'm moving forward," she says with determination. "I'm going in solo, but I'll come out with a partner."
Kim Mi-ji currently teaches Japanese at a high school. Her colleagues and students do not know that she has never dated before. Usually, she does not wear makeup and just wears comfortable clothes and glasses. After applying for this show, she binge-watched other dating shows to learn how they would flirt on those shows so that she could use them on her dates. But her Cupid, Lee Eun-ji, advised her that the best flirting skills are to just take her best qualities and show them to the person she likes. If there is a guy she likes, Mi-ji says, "I'm going to try to express my honest feelings. And I'll try to smile a lot."
