Black Sheep Game: Episode 3 Recap
The identity of the first victim H and the real Black Sheep Code is revealed. As suspicions arise, who will become the next victim at the second Black Sheep Trial? B or G?
The Black Sheep Game
The Sheep Participants:
B - Go Inho - Freelance Model & Tactics Instructor
C - Kim Najeong - Freelance Announcer & Maxim Model
D - Kim Kyunghoon - Entrepreneur
E - Pungja - YouTuber
F - Song Migyeong - Triathlete & Sports Influencer
G - Jung Jaeho - Venture CEO & Entertainer
H - Yeeun - Singer-Songwriter Ha:tfelt
Victim H's Identity is Revealed
Like D said, "The 'Black Sheep Game' is a game about society disguised as a survival." The society of 8 at Sheep Village decided H was the sheep most unlike the group and eliminated her. Unable to break through prejudices, a tearful H (Ha:tfelt) became the first victim.
The 4th morning at Sheep Village. At 8am, the identity of victim H is revealed to all sheep. A white sheep! Black sheep D who hid the 'Debtor' code is not at all surprised. A victory.
After curfew is lifted, the sheep quickly gather at H's resting area which is now unlocked. H's individual codes: Cohabitation Experience, N-Jobber, Second Child, Claustrophobia, Single-Parent Family, Feminist, & Ex-National Idol. No 'Debtor' code.
In the 'Dying Message,' H points out the command B has on popular opinion and how others blindly follow whatever he says. Can the observations H left behind help the white sheep?
7 Sheep 7 Different Identity Tags
The sheep gather at the Lounge to pick up new identity tags, which includes rank and a two-digit number. The number on the tags is the results from their Criteria Personality Inventory Test (CPI Assessment). It is their general sociability index, which shows how willing one is to maintain smooth relationships within a group.
F is the only one who got a high score of 62. B, C, & G are average with a score of 51. A & D are low at 33 and 31 respectively, while E is very low at 22. Another possible hint...
The Real Black Sheep Code
B suddenly calls D to chat privately outside and A joins. After seeing the color of the juice left behind in H's room, A & B concludes G is a black sheep because his was different. G's was a red juice while H's was orange. So certain right in front of the real black sheep D, hilarious.
D mocks them with a chuckle, "They won't learn." Instead of trying to reevaluate and discuss what to do next after voting out a white sheep, they are once again jumping to conclusions. D who also received an orange juice knows the color of the juice does not matter.
The truth behind the juice is to deliver a barcode to the black sheep, which reveals the Black Sheep Code. D's codes are: Born Rich, Born & Raised in Seoul, 5-Million-Dollar Man, First-Placer, Eldest Child, Survival Show Experience, & Outcast.
D reveals his high school experience when he was labeled as a problem child and treated as an outcast. An experience in life that only the black sheep have, the code is 'Outcast.' Who is the other black sheep with this code?
A Shift in Suspicions
A & B further unite by sharing their suspicions. D points out the parallel of this game to reality in society. Players are coming up with nonsensical reasons to name someone a black sheep, while those who are not black sheep have to go to such lengths to prove they are not one. "It is exactly how a group creates an outcast," says D.
Meanwhile C, E, F & G who are left behind in the Lounge also talk. F wants to pull E aside to talk privately, but E wants to hear what everyone has to say. E reveals she was suspicious of G up until yesterday, but changed her mind after the trial. C feels the same way about G. But F who has been suspicious of G since day 1 has not changed her mind.
After H was sacrificed, there is a new divide in the main alliance and suspicions have shifted. A now also suspects E. G suspects B & F, while F still suspects G. And C suspects D.
The entire group gathers to disclose their reasoning for voting out H as a black sheep. A felt swayed and confused by E who brought up the news article about H's finances. E admits to being the one who first brought it up, but notes how there were 4 others who said they have seen the same article. Not one trustworthy sheep as they all try to deflect responsibility.
Mini Game: Silence & Confession of the Sheep
The game is an individual game where the winner will get a hint about the Black Sheep Code and immunity at the trial. Each player will get 1 'Silence' and 2 'Confession' cards. Two sheep can enter the Interrogation Room at a time to submit a card. Each sheep may enter the room 3 times with different players. A prison term is received based on the card submitted. And the sheep with the shortest total prison term wins.
B speaks up first saying they can plan all the moves in advance to manipulate the game and make one person the winner. But E, who caught B in a lie earlier, wants to play quietly on her own. As it is difficult to determine who to trust right now, C does not want him to force opinion on everyone to follow. This is the first time B's opinion has been rejected.
C approaches G when the game begins to share observations about A, B, & D who have not been targeted. They are also the ones who are controlling popular opinion. C thinks it is likely for at least one of them to be a black sheep.
C places trust in G and agrees to submit a 'Silence' card while he gains an advantage with a 'Confession' card. After the exchange, G approaches E & F next to try to make a team of 4 to control the game and promises to share the hint. But E & F do not trust him.
After finding out C & G already made an exchange, D now has to move quickly and manages to gather A, B & E. The team agrees to help make A win, the most naive one. So G is left out once again. With a majority alliance, the game is already over. The final winner is A.
The Code is 'Adoptive Family?'
As per D's plan, A gets the hint. D reasons why A was chosen. Someone who would honestly share the hint or be incapable of manipulating it so they can decipher it together.
The hint is a photo of Elon Musk and one of Angelina Jolie. These two public figures are also defined by the Black Sheep Code, 'Outcast.' However, A deduces 'Adoptive Family'...
Back at the Lounge, A calls for his team of B, D & E to meet privately. The other 3 sheep are left out. A asks if Musk is married or adopted a child, and D confirms "yes" right away saying Musk was an adoptee. A blatant lie, but A celebrates as if he just cracked the code. A shares the hints and is now convinced the code is 'Adoptive Family.' D & E both make a fuss...
The team pretends to share the hint with the rest, but pulls out a surgical glove? The master plan by A is to lie and mislead them with a fake hint. A does not share the real hint believing the black sheep are among F, G & C.
E suddenly instigates again and calls out A & B to talk privately. F is stopped from joining. B does not think it makes sense for G to be Korean with such a small head. And then A thinks C may have dual citizenship and is perhaps Japanese because of her makeup style.
Who is the 2nd Black Sheep?
Thanks to A & B's ridiculous assumptions, the Black Sheep Code became 'Adoptive Family.' Meanwhile, D is having fun with how these foolish sheep went in the wrong direction on their own. To add in some extra spice, D decides to link in the previous math problem hint. G said the answer is a range so D suddenly shares it is 117. His strategy is to make them lose trust in G and vote him out later. However, C noticed how D poured his heart and soul into proving his solution. Noting how D wanted to make people put their trust in him.
G brings up how public opinion has targeted him as a black sheep to C, B & F. Stating how it is the black sheep's mission to make others believe in lies and can persuade others to kill off anyone. "Isn't it better to analyze and look at things more logically and objectively?" asks G.
As time passed, the fewer who would listen. No one listened and no one would help G. In the interview, he says, "What gives me chills about this program is that a team at a disadvantage sinks further into a disadvantage. It's as though we were victims of being made outcasts."
Before curfew starts again, G talks to A to remind him there are two black sheeps who will try to manipulate the hint to their advantage...
The 2nd Black Sheep Trial
11pm, the second Black Sheep Trial. Will they be able to catch a black sheep tonight?
On the way to the trial, D secretly hands E a note: "Please trust in me today. It's G today." D wanted E on his side to pick G. While C shares with F how the sociability index earlier could relate to 'Outcast,' and reasons it might be D & E. C wants to pick D.
Everyone except for A who won immunity is a candidate for tonight's victim. To speed up the debate, D wants to see the hint G got earlier. Turns out, they played another mini game 'Your Ranking' for another clue. The observant player G was the winner. After checking the hint, G said, "Game over. This is really obvious."
Deducing the Black Sheep Code
Back at the trial. Before revealing the new hint, G wants to know what each of them think the Black Sheep Code is. B thinks it is either Adoptive Family, Only Child, or Born Rich. A wants to cut to the chase and asks to just see the hint. Though A did not share his hint earlier...
Anyway G reveals the hint which is an image of a Shuttle from StarCraft. Then G proceeds to make a strong case for what the Black Sheep Code is and cites the evidence:
- # of friends on KaTalk
- Results from the CPI assessment, sociability index
- Playing a game called 'Dirt Spoon' Bingo
- Math problem answer (solved by D) is 117, the hotline to report school bullying
- Shuttle refers to 'Bread Shuttles,' what victims of bullying were called
- The filming location is a school
- Food provided as dosirak, packed lunchboxes
- Announcements made with the school bell sounds
The hints all point to one thing so G reasons the Black Sheep Code is 'Outcast.'
Finally, A reveals the Elon Musk and Angelina Jolie photo hints to the entire group and insists the code is 'Adoptive Family.' Despite all the evidence, A claims the code is not 'Outcast.' But G knows Musk and Jolie were both bullied in the past, and E quickly agrees with him. E once did a cable TV special on Jolie and knows she was bullied.
Note: I now highly suspect E as the other black sheep. E withheld this info earlier and helped mislead A & B in the wrong direction. Before speaking up at the trial, E also turned left first to make eye contact with D as if to seek confirmation. And along with the secret note exchange, it is possible the two already figured out each other's identity.
Another Black Sheep With an 'Outcast' Code?
A & B is in a hurry and wants to know who each person is now suspicious of. G makes a plea for the white sheep to unite and save him. Based on reasoning, G can only suspect the ones who are adamant the code is not 'Outcast.' That is A & B. Since A has immunity, the suspect is B. G asks for E's opinion, who throws B under the bus right away.
F adds ammunition and brings up how B went up to her on the 2nd night asking, "Hey, aren't we the black sheep?" B claims he was suspicious of her and just wanted to sus her out.
To try to defend himself, B brings up how it makes no sense for him to want to lose the team game if he was a black sheep. G now realizes how they all plotted against him and wanted to eliminate him. Fooled right before his own eyes. "The reason G could guess the Black Sheep Code was because he went through a similar experience here," as narrator Mr. X says.
D attempts to corner G and asks why he tried so hard to win the game earlier. G retorts, "If I didn't get the hint, there wasn't any instance where I received the hint properly."
Meanwhile, B is starting to freak out and starts rambling on and on about why he was not an outcast. Feeling hurt, he says, "All I did was do my best in everything... You can kill me if you want... But I wish the white sheep win."
Then E comes in with more ammunition against B, bringing up what she saw in his notebook before. Strategy notes about being 'friendly' and 'to use other's mistakes to his advantage.'
Note: It really looks like E is trying to stab B in the back and bury him.
G & B continue to debate. B agrees the right code is 'Outcast' now, but wants to know why G thinks only he fits the criteria. B attacks G saying he could be an outcast as well and made a nasty remark. More like a personal attack, in my opinion.
As E piles on ammunition, B is frustrated how nobody is listening to his explanations. Karma, perhaps. Last night, B took the lead in cornering H as a 'Debtor.' Now he knows how she felt.
Time to make the black sheep choice. F, G, E & D chose B. While C chose D, A chose F, and B chose G. With 4 votes, B has been chosen as the black sheep candidate and moves to the altar for the last argument.
The 2nd Black Sheep Candidate, B's Last Argument
B breaks down in tears while on the altar. "I'm an outcast?" he asks and pleads, "It's not me. It's really not me." Honest tears or acting?
D asks G if he is sure it is B. However, G is not sure since there is no concrete evidence. But based on logic, he inferred based on who kept avoiding the 'Outcast' code. C does not think the code relates to B. Meanwhile, E just wants to get this over with.
The final voting begins. E gets up first and votes 'O' right away. G votes 'O,' then C votes 'X.' The choices of D & F are not revealed. Then the last voter A gets up... What will be the result of B's final voting?
B who had the codes 'HackInssa' (Mad Popular) and 'Communalist' was chosen as the black sheep candidate with the code 'Outcast.'
In the next episode preview, it looks like D may have chosen to save B and went on to target the smarter G to get him out of the way. Who will become the final victim at the last trial? And who will win the prize money?
