Friends: Episode 1 Jung Jae Ho's Daily Life

10am at Jaeho's house. The alarm rings. After waking up, the first thing is to go on Instagram to check for updates and press likes. Heechul is surprised by the 971 messages on KaTalk, a real "hack-inssa!" Jaeho is a part of many group chats and always has 999 messages. And reveals he has 3,709 contacts! Whoa~ a shocking number!

A pile of packages await outside the door from overnight deliveries. Jaeho gets a morning workout moving each of the boxes into the kitchen. Heechul smiles widely watching how he neatly lines up the bottles of water in the fridge with labels facing forward. He then unpacks the groceries: mandu, blueberries, frozen pastry, hash browns, kimchi, eggs, etc. After seeing how 5 of the eggs are cracked, he sets up a pretty table lamp for a photo session. Sangmin thought he was taking a picture to upload onto SNS. Nope, he is taking a picture to return it. For customer support who must look at package return photos all the time, he wanted to make it pretty and a bit witty.

Grooming Guy Jaeho's Morning Routine

Jaeho enters the bathroom to get ready for work. A sudden shower scene... Seunghee is flustered... what the?! He then winks into the mirror while shaving. A collective round of "Ei~" from the MCs watching. Heechul teases, "He is conscious of the camera! Who's going to wink and shave?!"

After the quick shower, the real morning grooming routine begins. First, Jaeho carefully applies toner using a facial cotton pad. Next, he applies moisturizer by gently using his ring fingers around the eyes. It exerts the least amount of pressure. "It's important for men to groom as well these days," explains Jaeho. He rates himself a 92 in terms of grooming points, as he takes good care of his skin and appearance. Lastly, he styles his own hair and even knows how to check the temp of the flat iron by smell. Impressive~

Daily Life of a Startup CEO

Time to go to work. Jaeho changes into a neat outfit, but walks into another room instead. It turns out, he has been working from home recently due to social distancing. A computer room and office is set up with a standing desk. It is good to work while standing, as sitting all day is not good for the back. To keep himself in check, Jaeho does not dress too casually even when working from home. The full setting helps him focus and not slack off.

While on the computer, Jaeho checks on the daily sales metrics. What is he up to now? As shown on Heart Signal 2, he is the CEO of a startup company. But the area of focus has changed a lot since then. Initially, the startup was about simple transaction solution. As there are too many regulations in the financial industry, it became too difficult to operate. Next, he started an intermediary catering service in the food industry. But Covid-19 broke out right after the beta service was launched. The latest business idea is STKYPIC, a Post-it like frame that will allow renters the ability to hang up photos on the wall. "Wouldn't it be easier for people to keep memories? That is why I started this business," says Jaeho.

Hustler Jaeho & Hacker Gunhee

Traces of product development can be seen all over the house. Jaeho works busily, making calls to discuss how to further improve the product with suppliers. Wasting money on labor costs is the biggest reason why startups fail. In order to prolong the life of the business... Jaeho says, "If it's something I can do, I'm going to do it."

The doorbell rings. Business partner, Kim Gun Hee, arrives. Jaeho can do everything except for one thing which is development. The most important thing for a startup is the 3H's: Hipster, Hacker, Hustler. The hipster is a designer, the hacker is a developer, and the hustler is a businessman. Jaeho met Gunhee at a Hackathon event 3 years ago where they both competed. Jaeho as hustler and Gunhee as hacker. Knowing his development skills, Gunhee was scouted to join Jaeho in the startup business.

Jaeho and Gunhee sit down to discuss plans for the business. It has been 2 weeks since launch, but the numbers are not too good. The plan is to reach out to popular illustrators for a potential collab project. The first priority today is to make the offers. Next, the two work on making a more impactful and viral promo video. Shindong jokes, "I am really good at filming videos. Should I join them as a new friend?"

Gunhee is put in charge of shooting the video. Since hackers like to receive detailed directions, Jaeho turns on the grid lines, checks the angles, and centers the view. The side effect is that hackers will only do as told, jokes Jaeho. The MCs chuckle watching how he does move like a machine, a bit robotic.

Bokkeumbap for Dinner

6pm, time for dinner. Gunhee works on fixing website issues, while Jaeho cooks. On the menu, bokkeumbap!

Jaeho's Bokkeumbap (Fried Rice) Recipe:

• Make scallion oil
• Add bacon and stir-fry
• Stir in eggs and soy sauce
• Add instant rice and stir-fry

The rice is scooped into a bowl to shape prettily before plating, and lastly topped with a fried egg. Complete!

Next, a mysterious item is placed into the waffle maker. Tonkatsu? Nope, hash browns! That is not all, as he plates shrimp toast cooked in the air fryer. Wow, the MCs exclaim out in excitement! Shindong teases, "He seems to be a bluff, but he's good at it." All of the food looks delicious~

"Thank you for the food!" as Gunhee digs in and compliments on how delicious the fried rice is. During dinner, they have a convo about the ridiculous housing prices. The biggest concern for Jaeho these days is to find a new place to move into, as his current lease is ending soon. The homeowner wants to increase the rent since the home price has more than doubled. It is now too much for him to handle. The two commiserate about how difficult it is to find a nice home at a reasonable price, as everything is so expensive nowadays. As Gunhee says, "There's no house for me in this country..." After dinner, Gunhee packs up to leave and says goodbye.

Rabie's "Pick a Friend" Parcel Arrives

Jaeho receives a message alert that a parcel has arrived. It's the "Pick a Friend" capsule toy vending machine! He turns the knob without hesitation, but two capsules come rolling out... What to do? Anyway, he ends up turning the knob to draw more capsules. After much consideration, he finally chooses one from the pile and opens it. Jaeho is looking a bit flustered by the pick. Ta-da! The $10 allowance money is revealed. As Heechul says, "Money?! We're not curious about the money, show us the name!"

Who Will Be Jaeho's New Friend?

A few days later, Jaeho's "Friend-some Day" arrives and he is busily preparing something in the kitchen. First, the bread is rolled out and flattened. Then he cuts a hole in the center using a bottle cap. Next, he spreads strawberry jam. Lastly, he brushes butter on top and places it into the air fryer. Strawberry jam pie is complete!
